Sunil Handunetti asks for transparency from the President
The Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) and the People's
Liberation Front (JVP) MP Sunil Handunnetti requested the President
Maithripala Sirisena to not proceed with the lease agreement to hand
over of the Hambantota Port to a Chinese Company, local media reports.
He said at least the people have the right to know about the contents of the agreement and the government has the moral obligation to reveal those particular contents.
Mr. Handunetti asked the President to at least present the agreement in the Parliament.
He said this was a clear case of the government being responsible for the future generation and that is what the people expected when they elected Maithripala Sirisena as the President to ensure transparency.
